We all know that the free economy is driven by consumer spending. This has prompted marketers and even psychologists to look deep in to the consumer spending habits and ways to exploit the same. The result of this overkill is that you see very little innovation and too much of cliche being followed in all the stores. Sample this: magazines, chocolates and batteries near the checkout point, intrusive salespersons who want to engage/force you into the purchase, prices ending on .99, bakery section at the deep end of the store. Does this all sound a bit too familiar? If so then it is the result of the above mentioned overkill. In their pursuit of these rather shallow methods of inducing purchase, retailers forget the importance of very basic factors like genuine good quality, freshness, and low prices.
