The purpose of the club is to restore and maintain the history of railroading. Additionally, the museum has a large model railroad which many members enjoy building, operating and recreating scenes of railroads past and present. The experience of the mdel railroad is not limited to controlling trains as they go around on the track but include a number of other disciplines including artistic construction of models, programming controllers, wiring electrical circuits, woodworking, and the thrill of seeing a plan put through from an idea to something that works and you can see in action. Members also meet new people with similar interests and share other aspects of life related to the hobby.
We invite you to come out for a visit! Tours can be arranged with prior notice appreciated. We are also always looking for new members, do drop by and have a look around.
Our layout track is all DCC or computer controlled with a double dog bone track plan and no 'duck-unders'. The layout has the capacity to allows 99 engineers to operate at one time independent of one another. A public viewing hall is located on the North side of the building.
In addition to model railroading, the museum is also dedicated to preserving the history of railroading in the region. The museum's museum has a number of pieces that represent railroading's past including the caboose, switch gear, signaling equipment and several motorized railroad vehicles.
The club was started in 1987 by John Cummings who contacted other railroading enthusiasts to from a group. They met in various places and members made modular sections of portable track that could be pieced together. The club found a home in the City Center Mall for a short time but was forced to relocate after the flood of '97. After much work and establishing funding through grants, the museum moved forward and finally secured land at the Heritage Center of East Grand Forks. With many volunteers and many hours the creation of Casey Holt Junction came to being.
The club is deeply indebted to all who selflessly contributed their time, skills and effort to realize the goals of the museum.
Our business meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00PM at the Casey Holt Junction Club building.
Saturdays of every week are scheduled club work days and the building is generally open from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM each Saturday.
